Sonic Post-Apocalyptic Future Ch. 5

Chapter Five: A Lone Hero.

Miles away from New Station Square, there was a city in ruins. Darkness consumed it as zombies roam free across the wastelands. The sun was setting from the hills. Up on an old building stood a hedgehog.

The figure was Sonic the Hedgehog. He was wearing black pants, red and white shoes, a black shirt, black fingerless gloves, and a brown cloak. His weapons were a sword with the Chaos Emeralds in them, two desert eagles and a Spas-12 shotgun. He also had a scar over his right eye which was now red. He was leaning against a window and looking at a zombie head that he was holding in his hand.

Sonic: I'm sorry this happened to you.

(Sonic drops the zombie head and it falls in a burning car)

Sonic leans against the window with a sigh, wondering how many lives were lost in this city. He watches as the sun sets, knowing it's going to be dark soon.

Sonic: I might as well stay here until morning. It's not safe to travel at night.

Sonic hops off the window and walks towards a room. He opens the door. There was a bed, a table with a map on it, a window that was cracked and a T.V. that was off and dusty.

Sonic: Good thing I barricaded the entrance earlier. I should be safe in here until morning.

(Sonic locks the door and barricades it with some boxes and one of the chairs)

Sonic: Time to get some sleep.

Sonic sets his weapons down on the side, hops on the bed and slowly closes his eyes.

Sonic: (narrating) It's been ten years since the fall of Station Square. The city was overrun with zombies. My friends and I were among the number of people who survived. After G.U.N. launched a nuke, much of Station Square was in ruins. However, Eggman and his robots turned good and began rebuilding the city. Station Square became New Station Square and the center of great futuristic technology. After the city was rebuilt, my friends and I went our separate ways, but we swore that we will return to New Station Square one day.

(Flashbacks were circling through the hedgehog's head as he remembers what happened)

Sonic: (narrating) Ten years came and went since that day. Suddenly, the outbreak came back to haunt us. Rivers dried up, forests became deserts, and cities were in ruins. Much of the world became a post-apocalyptic wasteland. However, New Station Square was prepared. The people built defenses around it and spread its technology to others places: Night Babylon, Mystic Ruins, Route 99, Speed Highway and even Central City.

(Sonic remembers all the places he went to and some of the people he met)

Sonic: (narrating) As for me and my friends, well, we were prepared for it. A lot of us have been surviving this plague by sticking together as a group. We spent days and nights traveling the wastelands. We gathered supplies, help other survivors, even fought against the undead. Sometimes, being on the road was the only way to stay alive.

(Sonic was thinking about his friends and he hopes they're alive and safe)

Sonic: I just hope my friends are doing okay.

(Sonic slowly closes his eyes and falls asleep)

Sonic was running through the forest. He was worried about what following behind him.

Sonic: I think I lost them.

Sonic suddenly stops against a tree, exhausted. He placed his hand on his head. He had a bandage over his right eye.

Sonic: I can't believe it's back. I must find the others. I already lost an eye because of those monsters, I won't lose anyone else.

Sonic kept running until he sees the G.U.N. Base. He waves to them, exhausted. The group of soldiers came out. Suddenly, Sonic passed out.

Soldier #1: Is that... Sonic?

Soldier #2: Looks like he's passed out.

Soldier #3: Let's get him inside.

Later, Sonic was in a medical chamber. The G.U.N. scientists were studying him when they hear the door open. They look to see the Commander, Topaz and Chris.

Scientist #1: Commander. What brings you here?

Commander: How's Sonic?

Scientist #1: Good, actually. He's stabilizing for now, he'll make it. However, he lost an eye. Probably from those walking corpses out there.

Scientist #2: What about Chris?

Topaz: He's here to bring something for Sonic. He said that he and Tails made a special eye for him to replace the one he lost.

Scientist #2: What is it?

Chris reaches into his pocket and pulls out a red eye.

Chris: This is a special eye we made for him. It will give him amazing sight, help him tell the difference about the living and undead, whom to trust and scan his surroundings.

Scientist #3: Wow. You two must have really worked hard on it.

Chris: Believe me, Sonic and his friends may be the only hope we have. I lost Station Square once, I will not watch this city fall again.

(Sonic slowly opens his one good eye and sees Chris talking about him and about New Station Square)

Commander: Chris wants everyone to be prepared. If this zombie plague has returned, we need to set up defenses and plan ahead on evacuation.

Topaz: Omega has offered to help with the robots. Plus, the defenses. He's been a little worried since Shadow and Rouge left, though.

Chris: Commander, since Sonic knows you and Topaz, I want to both to give him this eye.

Commander: Sure thing.

Topaz: What about you?

Chris: I got to help New Station Square set up fortifications around the area. That, plus we're thinking about setting up colonies in snowy areas and spreading futuristic technology to the other cities.

Topaz: Smart.

Commander: We'll be sure to tell Sonic what you said.

Chris: Thanks. I just hope he and friends are holding up okay.

(Sonic watches as Chris leaves)

The next morning, Sonic woke up. He places his hand on his head.

Sonic: Why do I keep having these dreams?

Sonic sighs and grabs his weapons. When he opens the door, he sees some zombies.

Sonic: Guess I missed a few rooms.

Sonic pulls out his two desert eagles and starts shooting them. He sees a few more coming. He puts away the desert eagles and takes his shotgun out next. He starts shooting at them until there was one left. He pulls out his sword and slashes the zombie. He shakes the green zombie blood off his sword and puts it away.

Sonic: Better keep moving. More of them will come.

(Sonic leaves the room)

After Sonic leaves the building, he looks around for any undead in the area. He can tell that the streets were quiet.

Sonic: No sign of any undead, for now. It's pretty quiet. Maybe a little too quiet.

(Sonic stops at an alleyway and kicks an empty can into it)

He looks to see three zombies coming out of the alleyway. He then smirks and pulls out his sword. The Chaos Emeralds started to glow.

Sonic: Easy. I don't even have to use any of my guns.

Sonic runs to the zombies while they charge towards him. Sonic jumps over them and slices one zombie's head off. The other two try to grab Sonic, but he ducks. He then slides underneath the second zombie, trips it and then impales his sword into its head. The third zombie grabs Sonic, but he kicked its jaw, causing the zombie to let him go. Sonic then jumps back onto a wall and jumps high up, then cuts the zombie in half.

Sonic: May you rest in peace.

(Sonic shakes the green zombie blood off his sword)

Sonic: Time to leave this place.

Sonic then starts running through the ruined city. He reaches the exit which was a tunnel full of old cars. He takes out a can of red spray paint and spays a message on the cars. The message said, "City in ruins. Everyone is gone. Do not enter."

Sonic: No turning back now.

Sonic jumps over the cars until he reached the entrance. He then paints the same message on a wall and then turns around.

Sonic: I just hope my friends and any other survivors through the desert wastelands can get this message.

(Sonic then reaches into his pocket and pulls out a couple of photos)

Sonic looks at the photos. The first one was a picture of him and all of his friends. The second one was a photo of him and his siblings and his mother. A small tear came into his eye. Sonic really missed his friends and family.

Sonic: Wherever you guys are... I hope you're safe.

(Sonic sighs and puts the photos away)

Sonic: Well, I better keep going. Better to be on the road than stay here.

Sonic starts running through the desert wastelands, in hopes of reuniting with his friends and family and stopping this plague.
