Chapter Two: Rebuilding for the Future A.K.A. The Origin of New Station Square

The next day, the Sonic Heroes lead the survivors to Station Square. When they arrived, much of the city was in ruins. However, to their surprise, there were other survivors. They said they were hiding in the tunnels of the Metro Station and in the sewer system. They also said they built an underground colony underneath them, which was great news because the survivors planned on rebuilding their city.

The survivors began gathering equipment, moved debris around and starting working on construction. Suddenly, they look to see a group of ships arrive onto the city. There, standing on the flagship, was Dr. Eggman. Some of the G.U.N. Soldiers held out their guns, wondering what Eggman wants. Suddenly, Sonic stepped forth and walks towards Eggman.

Sonic: Eggman. What brings you here?

Eggman: I heard about the outbreak in Station Square. When I saw that the city was in ruins, I came here to look for anyone who made it.

Sonic: Is this some sort of trick?

Eggman: No. I also came here to help rebuild Station Square. That's why I brought my robots here.

(Chris and the rest of the Sonic Heroes walked towards Sonic)

Chris: Can we trust him? After all we went through?

Sonic: What other options do we have? Besides, we need all the help we can get if we want to rebuild this city.

Chris: Good point.

The others talked about it as well until they all came into an agreement.

Sonic: Okay, we'll help you and your robots help. But, try anything and you'll be sorry.

Soon, the survivors, the Sonic Heroes and Eggman's robots began rebuilding Station Square. Eggman was ordering his robots to help out with the construction and countless humans and mobians were working hard on blueprints for their new city. Months passed since the construction. Soon, Station Square was rebuilt into a technologically advanced city with futuristic buildings and vehicles. There were also farms and greenhouses that produced fresh food and water plants and water catchers that can produce fresh water. The survivors also built a generator and solar panels that can provide electricity for the city.

As for the underground colony, it was turned into an underground city with multiple tunnels that the survivors can use for evacuation. There were tents and buildings made of wood, tarps and scraps of metal. There were also fireplaces, torches and lanterns scattered throughout the city and in the tunnels. The survivors even put up bridges, signs and maps around the tunnels. There were even traps set up in the tunnels.

After much hard work, the survivors, Sonic Heroes and Eggman's robots finished rebuilding the city. The survivors renamed Station Square as New Station Square and it became the center of great futuristic technology. All the survivors became moving into the city, from setting up new homes to finding jobs around the city.

Later that night, Eggman decided to turn over a new leaf and use his robots for good. So, he traveled across the world, spreading his technology to humans and mobians alike. Meanwhile, on the same night, the Sonic Heroes decided to go their separate ways.

Most of the people in New Station Square didn't know what happened to the Sonic Heroes. However, only Chris Thorndyke and Dr. Eggman knew where they were. Earlier, Sonic got a note from Chris and he was told to come to Chris' mansion. Surprisingly, the mansion was different. The fence was fortified with metal sheets and wooden boards. There was also barbed wire on top and floodlights on the sides. The gate opens and Sonic walks in to see Chris standing before him.

Sonic: You called me here for something, Chris?

Chris: Yes.

(Sonic and Chris walks into the mansion)

Later, Sonic was at a table with Chris and Eggman. They wanted him to come for an important meeting.

Sonic: So, why did you both bring me here?

Chris: Eggman and I wanted to ask you if you and your friends could help us with New Station Square.

Eggman: We got a lot of people moving on with their lives and some are even looking for jobs. We thought you might like to help.

Sonic: Tempting, but I don't know.

Chris: What do you mean?

Sonic: The others and I have been doing a lot of thinking and we're all thinking about retiring.

Eggman: Retiring?

Sonic: Yeah, seeing that you're using your robots for good after the fall of Station Square, my friends and I have all decided to go our separate ways. But, we will return when we're needed the most. I know the others are setting off on their own journey.

Chris: Then, where will you go?

Sonic: Me? Wherever the wind takes me, I guess.

Chris: But, we could really use you guys. New Station Square needs people.

Sonic: Wish I could help, but my friends and I are going on separate ways. And besides, now that Eggman has retired, I can finally return to my family.

Chris: You have a family?

Sonic: It's a long story.

Eggman: Well, New Station Square is always open for when you all return.

Sonic: May we meet again.

The Sonic Heroes went their separate ways. However, the people of New Station Square know that one day, they will return. Little did they all know, a great evil was about to return.
